Linda King, PPGPB Board Member
Stepping Down, Signing Off
December 31, 2010
I can’t believe it! The past four years of serving on the PPGPB Board of Directors have gone by like the speed of light. That means it was a little over five years ago that I was first introduced to the Professional Photographer’s Guild of the Palm Beaches. It all started with a beautiful Palm Beach Wedding I attended where the very talented Julie and Peter Hughes were photographing. It was at the reception on a yacht following the wedding where I bumped into Julie. Naturally my first question was, “What are you shooting with?” The rest is history. Julie invited me to the Guild; Teresa Stevenson signed me up; and a year later I was asked to serve on the Board of Directors.
My first assignment as a Director was to redesign the newsletter and Guild logo. As a graphic designer and web designer, the next logical step was to take on the Guild Website redesign. I have been updating the website ever since, and have published the newsletter three out of four years - 2007, 2008 and 2010. In the year 2009 I had a break from the newsletter as Ron Manera took responsibility, for which I was most grateful. The second half of this last year I took a break from new clients in my design/photography business (Palm Beach Creative Services, Inc.) in order to keep up with Guild responsibilities and current/past clients; but most of all I was able to take a few breaks for travel, in which I added an enormous amount of photos to my landscape photography collection.
My experience as a Board Member has been very positive and family like. I have truly enjoyed working with each and every Board Member since I first started in 2007. This amazing group has been supportive of me and my ideas, as well as forgiving of my “quirks”, and have maintained the most amusing sense of humor in the light of it all.
My experience as a Guild Member has been and continues to be most positive. We really do have a special group of professional and extremely talented photographers in Palm Beach County, which actually expands to Miami/Dade, Martin County, and beyond. What a privilege it is to network with each one of you, as well as learn from you and the brilliant speakers which come from all over the state as well as other parts of the country for some of our special workshops and events.
I will be stepping down from the Board of Directors as of December 31, 2010. At this point Marty Grivjack will be taking over the newsletter, and Paul Finkelstein will be taking over the website. These are both tall orders, and there will be some bumps in the road. I trust our members will be patient as each one learns the ropes and/or comes up with their own methods of publishing information via print and the web. I know that both Marty and Paul will be outstanding in their performance. They have both served faithfully in their current responsibilities and the Guild membership appreciates each of them, as well as all of our Board members who work so hard to keep things running smoothly. Again, I am grateful for each Board Member and their faithfulness to keep up with the many ongoing responsibilities.
As of January 2011, I plan to refocus on my own business. I already have client jobs lined up so I trust it will be a profitable year with more adventures in this journey of faith which continues to transform and expand.
My prayer for each Guild member is that you will reach higher, raise the bar of excellence, and realize more of your potential in 2011; to become master trades men and women in a noble field, with vision and integrity in all of your pursuits. I look forward to continuing on as a Guild member and getting to know more of you over the course of time.
I want to thank each of you with all my heart for allowing me to serve the past four years on the Board of Directors. But know this – as of December 31, 2010 – I will be finished with my duties! <Very Big Grin!>
God bless you all!
